Introduction
We had a very small number of Petra pilots experience a tail flutter during certain modes of canopy flight. We have investigated further to determine the cause of this issue and found that reducing the weight in the tail has helped to reduce the noticeable flap/shake/resonance across the width or the wingtips of the tail of the canopy.
After careful review of feedback from customers, testing of canopies, linesets and gathering data, JYRO has made a minor design modification to the Petra main canopy and lineset. The modification involved removing the tail slider stop at the brake line and adjusting the brake line to compensate for the removal. This reduces the weight in the tail which helps to reduce the occurrence of tail flutter and ensure the highest level of performance with the JYRO Petra canopy.
Background
New Petra canopies include a minor design modification. As a result, linesets (legacy line set) manufactured prior to this change (August 2026) are not directly compatible with your new canopy and must not be fitted without first carrying out the modification described below.
This does not affect the performance or reliability of either product, it simply means a small update to older line sets is required before use.
Advisory
If you have owned a Petra before and have an existing line set (legacy line set) from a previous canopy or spare parts stock please read the following carefully before rigging.
If the lineset serial number is 84261 or lower then it is a legacy lineset and must be modified before installation on a new Petra (DOM after July 2026).
If the lineset serial number is 86394 or higher then it is a modified lineset and no action is required. This lineset can be installed on any Petra.
We have listed below the serial numbers that fall between those two numbers identified above. These are legacy linesets and must be modified before installation on a Petra manufactured after July 2026. If you have a serial number that isn’t listed below and falls between the two numbers above, it is a modified lineset and no action is required.

FAQS
Why is JYRO issuing this Product Advisory Notice?
While only a very small number of people were affected we have decided to roll out this modification out to all canopies to avoid this issue arising for future pilots.
Is my parachute grounded?
No, and no modification is required to your canopy either. If everything is working as it should then just enjoy your canopy. Just ensure line set compatibility using the chart when installing a new line set.
Why is this change recommended?
We decided to roll this out on new canopies to prevent any new issues coming up for future pilots that fit in the tiny window of being affected.
What do I need to do now?
Not having a problem? Then you don’t need to do anything. Is your canopy manufactured 08/2026 or after? Check the line set compatibility chart when it comes time to reline.
I’m reading this on a mate’s social media post, where can I access the Product Advisory Notice?
We’ve published the Product Advisory Notice on our website and Help Centre. It can be found under the Service Bulletins section in both the website and Help Centre.
What is tail flutter?
Tail flutter is when the canopy’s tail edge flaps/shakes/resonances across the width or on the wingtips of the tail. It is normally induced by engaging the front risers of the canopy.
Are any other canopies affected by tail flutter?
Yes, other canopies can be affected by tail flutter but it is very rare and normally only affects high performance cross-braced canopies.
I think my Petra has tail flutter, what should I do?
If you think your Petra has tail flutter, please contact our team at support@jyro.com.
Do I need to get my existing Petra modified?
Nope! New linesets are compatible with existing Petras so no need to have any changes made to your Petra.
I’ve got a Petra on order already, will it be modified with this update? If you have a Petra on order already and the estimated completion date is due after 31st July, then yes, it will have been made with the new modification. Same goes with lineset orders.
