What is the pack volume for my JYRO canopy?

WILL IT FIT? PACK VOLUME AND CONTAINER COMPAITIBILITY

The short answer: use the Canopy Pack Volume tool, then confirm with a test pack.

Why we won't just tell you yes

Pack volume isn't a single number. The same canopy packs differently depending on:

  • Fabric - J-ZP (regular ZP), L-ZP (low-bulk ZP) and S_PU (sail) all pack differently. A low-bulk canopy (e.g. Helium) is not the same as a standard one at the same size.
  • Age and condition - a canopy with 500 jumps on it packs smaller than one out of the bag.
  • Your packing technique - this varies more between people than most jumpers think.
  • The container - manufacturers' size ratings aren't standardised across brands.

Basically, we can give you a comparison, not a guarantee.

How to work it out

  1. Run the pack volume tool. It covers some container manufacturers.
  2. Compare against a canopy you know. This is the most useful thing we can give you - for example, a Helium 189sqft packs like a standard (non-low bulk) 170sqft, such as a Safire 3 or Sabre 170sqft.
  3. Check your container's rating. It's on your reserve data card or from the manufacturer.
  4. Do a test pack. Borrow a similar canopy and pack it into your container. Nothing beats this.
  5. Ask your rigger. They know your rig and probably the canopy too.

Still not sure

Email sales@jyro.com with your container make, model and size and the canopy and size you are considering. That's everything we need - anything less and we'll just have to ask.
